“Destiny’s Whisper” by Cat DM

In February of 2024, we released our fifth Open Call: Using art, letters, stories, and poetry, tell us: how might we create healthy spaces and places for all? The following is an art submission we received from this open call.

“In my art, I explore the impact of light pollution on our daily lives. I hope my art can serve as a reminder of the impact of excessive artificial illumination on our environment and well-being. Through my illustrations, I want to evoke the stark contrast between the natural beauty of the night sky and the encroaching glow of urban sprawl. By raising awareness and sparking conversations about the consequences of light pollution, my art can inspire communities to take action to create healthier spaces. It encourages thoughtful urban planning that prioritizes responsible lighting practices to mitigate the adverse effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Additionally, I seek that my art can foster a sense of connection to the night sky, promoting appreciation for the wonders of the cosmos and the need to preserve them for future generations.”
